Ready to Fit

Here is my finished cereal box ready to stitch together, there is an order to a cereal box front most important bottom least important, i have still designed each side although i have clearly spent the most time on the front which of course is my favourite, i particularly  like the dark blue and light blue fade away into the distance which i created. which took quite a long time as well was the nutritional information on the left hand side. i also went the extra distance on small insignificant parts like the top by designing the slit which will keep the box shut after it has been opened

Front

The front of my box, which is now finished. what i think is most noticeable is the face as i looked at earlier on in my project that some companies have a little mascot for example tony the tiger, i decided to incorporate a character in my box, which was easy to make but needed touching up at a later date. i have also used a similar style to my design shown earlier but i have removed the gradient and only made it going from one side as if coming out from his head. i have used both parts of my name in the brand and slogan. the only problem for me was the cereal i had to go back and try again as i and my teachers weren't happy with what i had created.

Example

I found this picture on the internet and thought i liked the look of them, i will mimic these slightly by using a similar style which will be evident when i finish.

New Designs

I designed this when i started to make my cereal box, i started by making a grid, connecting the lines with a white stroke and a blue fill, i then went on to add two gradients, I do like this design i think it's very complex but i decided not to use it for my cereal box but i did like this font face that i made by using a simple font that i downloaded from the internet called 'just another font' i had to download it for home too. i have decided to change small parts and try to incorporate it into my cereal box, not as the brand name but as the cereal name, perhaps Corn Flakes.

Experimentation

further experiments in illustrator, i will not be using these but it has taught me some useful techniques for when it comes to making my own. for example how to break apart text to further manipulate.

when it comes to making my cereal box i want it to look good aestetically and professionally so that's why i am going to incorporate this guideline daily amount of nutritional information, as my cereal isn't real i will make up the numbers, i am also going to make this from scratch using a series of shapes and colours and fonts,

Character

Most cereal boxes have a character or mascot if you will, here we have the well know tony the tiger with the well known catchphrase 'they're grreeaaattt' as this image is so well known and a key instrument when designing the box i have decided to make my own

Shreddies

Nestle Shreddies, which where first produced in 1953 they used the well know catch phrase 'keep hunger locked up till lunch' are one of the leading UK cereal manufacturers, the styling to this box is more complex than the Corn Flakes box i reviewed earlier. Here we can see at first the Name of the product 'shreddies' in a bold loud red font with a backdrop colour of white which makes it pop better, as we can see this is placed in a arrow which i don't see the relevance for. In this styling as you will see on many is an action shot of cereal most of them tend to have a splash or a spoon lifting them out the bowl, i suppose this is to clearly show what the product is, which Corn Flakes has not done. 

Research-Kellogs Corn Flakes

Kellogs Corn Flakes are probable the most popular cereal, most definately the most established brand, dating back to 1906, the company that now employs nearly 32,000 people, manufactures in 19 countries and sells it's products in more than 180 countries. the current box style shown below is simple yet strong. minimal colours styled to add depth, two type faces the well known 'Kellogs' brand and the product 'Corn Flakes' this box is possible the simplest out of all that i have looked at but possible the strongest

Research

When starting my project i started experimenting before i had done any research mainly because i wanted to learn the program, which i feel i have achieved quite well when it comes to making my product. i have chosen to make a cereal box because it appealed to me most of all as i am a fan of cereal. i looked at the bigger cereal brands to start with like Kellogs and Nestle. i found that the brand names i.e. Kellogs are always the same on each box but the type of cereal is always in it's own style as this makes it easier for the customer to recognise the product from advertisements such as television and billboards. when i come to making my own i will have my company name which i have decided to call 'daniel's cereals' and my product name which will be cornflakes, a new design is necessary for this product.

Type

When starting illustrator i knew i had to create a title for my cereal box, i started by selecting different font faces from illustrator and the internet, then styling them to see if what i had created would work. 

I didn't know at the time what style of cereal box i wished to create so was looking to see what i created, many of these i like but thought wouldn't work well as a cereal box, something else perhaps. but i felt my two blue ones could possible work as they are similiar to a current cereal brand. i have in fact used the bottom left style but edited it slighly.

New Project!

New post, new assignment. Once again i have neglected blogger. I have not yet got into the routine of doing this, I suppose this is the equivalent to a production log and i have realised when in tutorial how important this is, so i will try to use it as i go along in the next project.
